A word from our pastor
|
Greetings, Occasionally, people will ask me to tell them about Woodland. I usually don't know where to begin. Woodland is certainly more than attendance figures and buildings. Since you're taking the time to check us out on the web, you're probably curious yourself. You want to know what we're about here at Woodland. Let me try to tell you. |
Woodland is about reverent worship, great music, thoughtful preaching.
Woodland is about welcoming people from many Christian traditions. Even though we have “Baptist” in our name, we are an eclectic bunch from many different backgrounds.
Woodland is about including women as well as men in leadership positions. We have women staff ministers, women deacons, and women in various other key ministries.
Woodland is about teaching children and youth the Good News of Christ. We have many children's and youth ministries designed to teach and train the younger generation the basics of the Christian faith.
Woodland is about beauty and solitude. Our campus is located among the trees, in a setting conducive to reflection and peace.
Woodland is about freedom. You will not be pressured or manipulated here.
Woodland is about joy. We have a lot of fun together, and believe that the most infallible proof of the presence of God among us is our joy.
You're starting to see, I suppose, why I never know exactly what to say when people ask me about our church. Woodland is all of this and more. Once I get started, I don't know when to stop!
Suffice it to say, for some of us Woodland is an oasis in the desert. In a world of unbelieving secularism and silly piety, Woodland is real. The people here are trying to live out an honest expression of the Christian life.
I invite you to come among us and see Woodland for yourself. As you worship with us, or come to one of our classes, or eat supper with us on Wednesday night, you will come to know who we are and what we hold dear. You will catch the flavor of Woodland much better in person than by reading anything I write.
I hope to see you soon.
Judson Edwards, Pastor
