Short-Term Missions

Each year approximately 60 Woodlanders go as missionaries to the Mexico/Texas border to continue our partnership with local churches and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship ministering to the border colonias near La Blanca. Our congregation participates in many ways: by collecting useable household items, clothes, and working electronics for distribution through the local church; conducting Vacation Bible School and Women’s Bible Study; providing dental and medical services; and helping with construction, as well as other services for identified needs. WBC contributes additional funding for these ministries and more, including scholarships through the Woodland Missions Committee for various mission efforts in the area.

Guatemala mission trip participants with Buckner International take part in daily devotionals, pass out humanitarian aid, lead Vacation Bible Schools or sports camps, and deliver the Gospel message to many children and families who long for the hope and healing offered through Jesus Christ. In addition to the work with Buckner International, representatives from our congregation travel to Xela to catch up with the girls from Hogar Louis Amigo, a privately owned orphanage. From Bible study to fundraising concerts, Woodland members have forged lasting relationships with the Capuchin sisters and the girls at the home.

Woodland partners with CERI (Children’s Emergency Relief International) to support ongoing ministry in Moldova and to care for hurting children at the Internot II government orphanage. Chisenaau Summer Camp was the site for the 2008 trip, where Woodland members conducted sports activities and taught crafts and Bible stories. Moldova, sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine, is one of the smallest of the former Soviet Union countries and is recognized as the poorest.
