Lenten Fridays

LentenFridays

Each Friday during the season of Lent we will have a brief service of music followed by lunch. We will begin promptly at 12:05 pm and end by 12:45 pm. Please call the church (493-4501) if you plan to attend lunch or click here.

 

Zachary & Meredith RidgwayFebruary 19
Zachary & Meredith Ridgway, Piano Duo

Having grown up as a child of music missionaries in Bulgaria, Zachary Ridgway became a concert artist at a young age. As a student at Baylor University, he met his bride, Meredith, also a concert pianist and teacher. Meredith is a 2001 graduate of San Antonio’s Reagan High School, and both Zachary and Meredith are 2009 Master’s Degree Recipients from Baylor University, both majoring in piano performance. The Ridgways teach at University of the Incarnate Word as well as the Musical Arts Center of San Antonio. Their concert on February 19 will feature several 4-hand piano selections.

 

Daniel Zamora February 26
Daniel Zamora, Pianist & Organist

Dr. Daniel Zamora was born and raised in Mexico City. As a graduate student, he came to the United States to pursue and complete his Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth. Having served at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio for over ten years, he filled several roles at different times, serving as Pianist, Organist, Music Assistant, and as Interim Minister of Music. Daniel now is the Organist/Pianist at the Church at Horseshoe Bay.

Mary Ellen Goree, Violinist
Lois Gagné, Pianist

A native of Washington, D.C., Mary Ellen Goree holds degrees in math and violin performance from Oberlin College and received the M.M. in violin with distinction from Indiana University.  Mary Ellen is the Principal Second Violin of both the San Antonio Symphony and the Colorado Music Festival (Boulder).  A well-known violin teacher throughout the City, she has been a member of the music faculty of UTSA since 1999.  Mary Ellen is a member of Woodland Baptist Church, where she often volunteers her services as a violinist.

Lois Gagne

Lois Gagné began her musical studies at the Val D’Or Conservatory in Northern Quebec, Canada. She is a 1982 graduate of McGill University in Montreal. Lois has twenty-three years experience as French Immersion Music Specialist with the Greater Montreal English School Board. Lois has served as accompanist for the Vincent D’Indy School of Music in Montreal, the Waterloo Music Academy near Brussels, Belgium, and Texas UIL Solo & Ensemble contestants. Since 2006, Lois has served as International Chorus Coordinator for YouthCUE.

 

 

 

Rachel FerrisMarch 12
Rachel Ferris, Harpist

Rachel Ferris currently holds the position of Principal Harp with the San Antonio Symphony. Originally from upstate New York, she attended high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Ms. Ferris received Bachelor’s Degrees in Religion and Harp Performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory. Ms. Ferris has participated in a number of music festivals including Aspen, Chautauqua, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Colorado Music Festival, and the Breckenridge Music Festival.

Benjamin Gagné, Violinist
Gabriel Gagné, Clarinestist
Lois Gagné, Pianist

Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Benjamin and Gabriel Gagné have been involved in classical music-making from their earliest years. Excelling as high school students at Reagan high school (Benjamin as Student Conductor of the Reagan Orchestra and Gabiel as Drum Major of the Marching Band), the young men have been deeply involved as singers and instrumentalists for YouthCUE Festivals as well as multiple years as part of the YouthCUE International  Chorus and Leadership Initiative.

Letha Crouch, Organist

Says Woodland Music Minister, Randy Edwards, “Letha Crouch is a an improvisational genius. What she can do with hymns – on either piano or organ – is brilliant, causing the text to practically speak through the improvisations she creates. One of the great congregational accompanists in the nation, Letha has recently complete a 30+ year career as Organist at First Baptist Church, San Antonio, where she served alongside Randy Edwards when he was Music Minister there in the 1980s. Letha is also a composer of numerous anthems for adults, youth, and children.

 

April 2
David Fong, Oboist
Bevin Baughn, Floutist
Lois Gagné, Pianist

David Fong is both pianist and oboist, young composer and promising performer at age 15. Having won national composition competition awards, David is involved in numerous YouthCUE projects and plays as a regular worship service instrumentalist at Woodland Baptist Church.  He is a freshman at Churchill High School. Bevin Baughn, a junior at Reagan High School, is active in flute competitions as well as an orchestra player for a wide variety of projects, shows, and instrumental groups in San Antonio. She is a regular YouthCUE instrumentalist and is often heard in worship at Woodland Baptist.
